Bold . . . Provocative. . . Hilarious. . . Sexy. . . Disturbing. . .
and that's just in the first scene!

Director Bill Fountain brings his unique vision of Shakespeare's classic tale, The Tempest, to the Dallas Hub Theater, with his newly-formed acting troupe, Level Ground Arts. Following recent critical successes with "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Julius Caesar", Fountain seeks a more intimate and low tech approach to this production, enhancing Shakespeare's language with explorations of physical expression. The ensemble of actors never leave the stage. They create all the elements of each scene with light, sound and movement - a very raw and visceral approach to the material.

Also integrated into the stage action is SMU professor and accomplished jazz musician Kim Corbet. Mr. Corbet will improvise music and and create a soundscape as the play progresses. The Tempest is definitely not "sit and look" theatre. As has become a staple of Level Ground Arts productions, the audience is actively engaged, adding a new perspective and layer to their theatre-going experience.

WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING:
“Fountain has vision, and like his Julius Caesar, The Tempest is a glimpse into the mind of an exciting theater artist who should be on everyone's radar.”

“Level Ground Arts' "Tempest" is an insubstantial pageant, but it won't fade from memory.”

“Fountain uses gender-switching and low-tech theatrical effects, such as front-loaded lighting that casts shadows on the back brick wall. Stomp-esque percussion sounds produced by the cast enhance the text and the original music created live by local composer/Foley artist Kim Corbet.”

“The tempest-tossed craziness is consistent, like Fountain's recent production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest at Onstage in Bedford. "Random" has no place in Fountain's grand ideas.”

“Zac Ramsey (as Ferdinand), Lisa Long (Miranda) and Krishna Smitha (Ariel and Trinculo) are standouts...”

“This Tempest is intriguing until its revels are ended.”  - Mark Lowery, TheaterJones.Com
