Bill Writes A Play OVERNIGHT

for ONE DAY ONLY 7!

ZOMBIES TAKE OVER PLANO, TEXAS!
Bill Fountain's 24 hour theater play has a great night at the One Day Only Festival!

"Decomposing Theater," a short play written by Bill Fountain, premiered at the Plano Courtyard Theater Saturday Night, April 22, 2006. The play, written, directed, rehearsed and produced in less than 24 hours was directed by Bob White and starred Eric Hopkins, Tristin Raquel Bunting, B.L. Wilson, Courtney Murphy, Allison Pistorius, Angela Owen and Martha Scad. It also featured an amazing horde of at least 20 Zombies that invaded the Courtyard Theater audience for a final act that no one in attendance will soon forget! Look for a film version coming this summer featuring the original cast and crew!

Back in September of last year I was honored to direct a 24 play for Rover Dramawerks' 24 hour play festival. This time around I have been selected to write one of the plays that will be produced in less than......uh....24 hours..

Because of my current rehearsal schedule for Arsenic & Old Lace, I couldn't work in the time needed to direct the production - but since the writers write the plays OVERNIGHT and I never sleep anyway, it seemed like a perfect match! Info below. Hope you can make it out and see some really fun and on the fly theater!

Info:
Rover Dramawerks’ highly anticipated 24-hour play festival, One Day Only is back!  The seventh installment of “seven short plays from concept to curtain in just one day” returns on April 22 at the Courtyard Theatre of Plano!

One Day Only was first produced in the metroplex in May of 2000 by Audacity Productions.  Rover Dramawerks teamed up with Audacity for the next three festivals, and Rover went solo to present One Day Only 5 and 6.  All of these are productions unlike anything ever done before, even by us!  For this is an event in which an entire one-act play festival of seven plays is written, produced, directed, rehearsed, teched, and performed in a single day.  Just 24 hours.

At about 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, a group of writers, directors, actors, and technicians will get together for the first time.  A brief get-to-know you session will include providing ideas for the writers (to be drawn out of a hat) and taking pictures of the actors (no headshots and resumes are allowed).  Then the writers will convene at a single location and work through the night.  Each writer will compose a ten to fifteen minute play based on the subject he/she drew that night.

At 6:30 a.m. (yes, THAT early!), the directors return.  They will quickly read the plays, decide who directs which play, and cast the plays from the pictures taken the night before.  The actors show up around 8:00 a.m. and meet with their writer/director team.  The writers go home to get some sleep while the plays are blocked, memorized, and rehearsed by the director and actors.

Tech rehearsal begins around 4:00 p.m.  Then curtain is at 8:00 p.m., when all of the plays are presented for the first time at the Courtyard Theatre of Plano.  That’s right – seven world premieres!
